Career

In July 2008, Matsui participated in the first audition for SKE48. She passed along with 22 other participants. The group debuted on October 5, 2008.

In the same year, she was selected to take part in the recording of AKB48's single "Ōgoe Diamond". It was the first AKB48 single to feature a member of a sister group. Since then, she is a regular AKB48 senbatsu (CD single selection) member.

On March 25, 2012, at AKB48's concert at Saitama Super Arena, Matsui suddenly left in the middle of a song. She was diagnosed with "dizziness due to anemia, overwork" and was hospitalized for a few days. According to the event manager, in the past few months there had been reports of her poor physical condition, but she had stated that she "absolutely did not want a break". She has been absent from AKB48's activities since then. AKB48's producer Yasushi Akimoto informed the group's fans that he had let her rest for an indefinite period of time.

At the AKB48 27th Single Senbatsu Election in 2012, Jurina Matsui placed 9th with 45,747 votes.
At the 2013 32nd AKB48 Single Senbatsu Election, Jurina Matsui placed 6th with 77,170 votes.
